Liftlog™ is a remaining life and load limiting data-logger for cranes that logs all hoisting motions as well as longitudinal and transverse travel. Accompanying software takes the wirelessly downloaded data and calculates the remaining life of the crane.

Why is this necessary?

The only method of recording usage that will not require the remaining life to be reduced by a factor of safety is to use an automatic recording system. This reduction can be up to 33% of crane life!

Additionally, cranes that are being used more than anticipated or at higher loads, risk premature failure. Overloads, shock loads and poor operating practices also reduce crane and hoist life. Conversely, lightly or seldom used cranes may not require overhaul as often. Reducing risk associated with owning and operating cranes, while simultaneously optimizing lifecycle costs, can only be done by maintaining your cranes based on their actual usage.

Why do I need a crane data logger?

The only method of recording usage that will not require the remaining life to be reduced by a factor of safety is to use an automatic recording system, such as Liftlog™. This reduction can be up to 33% of crane life!

What else do I need?

You will need a load signal from somewhere. This is typically a load cell or an output from a crane controller.

Can I piggy back off an existing load display?

Yes, definitely. The recommended method for connecting a Liftlog™ to an existing load display is to use a 4-20mA output from the display to a 4-20mA configured Liftlog™ or to insert a 4-20mA Liftlog™ into an existing current loop.

Where this is not an option, it may be possible to piggyback the Liftlog™ onto the strain gauge inputs of the load display.

How do I configure a Liftlog™?

Liftlog™ can be configured wirelessly using a laptop fitted with a Link-2 long range Bluetooth modem and running our FSU application. We don’t recommend using existing Bluetooth modems in your PC as these aren’t sufficiently reliable for configuration purposes. The good news is that we supply one free Link-2 with your first order and the latest FSU software is always available for free download from the Liftlog™ webpage. How do I get information from the Liftlog™ device?

Some information (e.g. run hours) is available by simply making a Bluetooth connection to the device from your smart-phone. To access the data on the logger, you currently need to connect to it with a laptop, connect to it using the Link-2 and FSU application and then download the data. Smart-phone apps for Android and IPhone will be coming soon to allow you to view and download data without a laptop.

I have downloaded my data from the Liftlog™? How can I work out remaining life?

You can either analyze the data yourself or you can email the data file to and we can prepare a report for you. (Please read our privacy policy before doing this.) We will be developing an automated web version in near future.

Can I change the gain on my existing Liftlog™?

Yes. When using a strain gauge load cell, Liftlog™ can be configured to one of 3 gain settings by moving an internal jumper. Note that you will need to recalibrate the Liftlog™ device after changing the gain.

Can I change the type of input on my existing Liftlog™?

Yes. We've developed an application note that contains details on how to do this. It is available from the Documents section of this webpage.

Do I need to calibrate the data logger using test weights?

Almost certainly. 

You will also need to recalibrate the unit after changing the gain, input type or if you erase the calibration for any reason.
